Building digitalisation capability across accreditation bodies
Services demonstrated
Digitalisation training · Accreditation sector expertise · Data and workflow analysis · Change management · Cybersecurity and AI awareness · Workshop facilitation
-
A group of accreditation bodies wanted to strengthen their understanding of digitalisation and identify practical ways to move their organisations forward. While there was clear interest in modernising services and processes, participants needed a structured introduction to the key concepts, risks and opportunities involved.
-
RAQC designed and delivered a multi-day training programme for 36 participants from 20 accreditation bodies. The course was tailored to the accreditation sector and combined presentations, facilitated group discussions and practical working exercises.
The training covered a broad range of digitalisation topics, from foundational issues such as structuring and capturing data, through to workflow design, user needs analysis, change management, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The emphasis throughout was on practical application rather than technology for its own sake.
Participants were encouraged to consider how digitalisation could support better service delivery, improved internal efficiency and more effective use of accreditation data.
-
By the end of the programme, participants had developed practical business case outlines for digitalisation opportunities within their own organisations. This gave them a tangible output to take back to their teams and use as a basis for further internal discussion, planning and implementation.
Feedback from attendees was very positive, with participants noting that the course was useful, pitched at the right level and relevant to their day-to-day work.
Supporting a laboratory towards ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation
Services demonstrated
ISO/IEC 17025 support · Laboratory accreditation preparation · Management system development · Process improvement · Coaching and capability-building
-
A small testing laboratory, was looking to gain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. The organisation already had an ISO 9001-based management system, but needed to develop this into a system capable of supporting the technical and management requirements of laboratory accreditation.
The laboratory needed a system that would meet accreditation expectations, but also remain practical, proportionate and aligned with the way the business actually operated.
-
RAQC worked with the organisation to review and develop its existing management system, building from its ISO 9001 foundation towards the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
This included helping the team develop policies, procedures and supporting arrangements that reflected their real ways of working. Where gaps were identified, we enhanced the organisation’s processes to meet ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
A key part of the work was capability-building. Rather than creating a system that depended on ongoing external consultancy, I worked with the team to build their understanding of the requirements and their confidence in maintaining the system themselves.
-
The organisation was left with a more mature, accreditation-ready management system, tailored to its activities and proportionate to its size. The organisation had a clearer understanding of both the system and the requirements behind it, helping them take ownership of ongoing maintenance and improvement.
The work supported the organisation’s progression towards ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation while reducing the risk of long-term dependency on external support.
Developing internal auditing capability within an accredited laboratory
Services demonstrated
ISO/IEC 17025 support · Internal audit training · Method witnessing · Laboratory competence development · Technical staff upskilling · Practical audit coaching
-
An established ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory wanted to strengthen its internal audit capability by upskilling a large group of analysts and technicians.
The organisation needed additional internal resource to support method witnessing audits of technical activities. Many of the staff involved had strong technical knowledge of the laboratory’s work, but limited previous experience of internal auditing beyond having been audited themselves.
-
RAQC worked with the laboratory to develop a focused training and development programme for analysts and technicians. The programme was designed to build practical internal auditing skills in a way that was directly relevant to their technical roles.
Rather than providing generic internal audit training, the programme focused specifically on method witnessing within their ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory environment. This helped participants understand how to observe technical activities, assess whether methods were being followed, gather objective evidence and identify issues in a constructive and proportionate way.
The programme also aimed to build confidence, so that participants felt able to contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s internal audit programme.
-
The laboratory developed a wider pool of internal resources able to support method witnessing audits. Participants gained a clearer understanding of the internal audit process, the expectations of ISO/IEC 17025, and how to apply audit skills within their own technical environment.
This helped the organisation strengthen its internal audit programme while making better use of the technical knowledge already present within the laboratory team.
